§ (Mr. William Henry Smith, Mr. Secretary Stanhope, Sir John Gorst.)
§ [BILL 228.] SECOND READING.
§ Order for Second Reading read.
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASUREY (Mr. W. H. SMITH) (Strand, Westminster)
I hope that the objection will not be persisted in, and that the second reading will be allowed to be taken. [Cries of"Order!"] I may point out that the Duke of Connaught, during his absence from India, will receive no salary whatever. By an arrangement this Bill is rendered necessary, and should be passed without delay, in order to enable His Royal 149 Highness to leave India without vacating his command. [Renewed cries of "Order!"] I appeal to hon. Members—[Further cries of "Order!"]
§ Second Reading deferred till Tomorrow.
