asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If he be aware that William Durnan, a person alleged to be of unsound mind, was committed to gaol for eight months by the Newry magistrates; and, whether he has been examined by the medical officer of the gaol; and, if 995 not, whether he will be examined in order to ascertain his mental condition?

I understand that this man, on committal to prison, was seen in the usual course by the medical officer, and passed by him. He is at present an inmate of the district lunatic asylum.
