§ MR. ARTHUR ARNOLD
asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether in September last Mr. Cookson used the following language to Arabi Pasha:— 1245I told him that if they persisted in assuming the government of the country the army must be prepared to meet the united forces of the Sultan and of the European Powers, both of whom were too much interested in the welfare and tranquillity of Egypt to allow the country to descend, through a military government, to anarchy;and, whether that language was approved by Her Majesty's Government?
§ SIR CHARLES W. DILKE
Sir, my hon. Friend is justified in assuming that Her Majesty's Government approve it.
