said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, What course he intends to take with regard to the Licensing of Houses for the Sale of Intoxicating Liquors?
§ MR. WALPOLE
said, in reply, that the Licensing Bill had been withdrawn because the Government could not, upon financial grounds, give their consent to the measure. His hon. Friend had asked him if he would undertake to deal with the subject. He replied that he had on several occasions expressed his opinion that the question ought, if dealt with at all, to be 1875 dealt with as a whole, and he promised to submit to his Colleagues during the recess a Bill which he believed would be likely to lead to a satisfactory result, a promise which he was fully prepared to perform.
